Project goals:

GREEN STAR aims to support the systemic change toward eco-innovation in the cluster of automotive suppliers, mainly SMES, by transferring from Germany to Italy, Spain and Romania, the Leonardo DOI "GT-VET" Sustainable Training Module for the European Steel Industry (Large Enterprises) and the Blueprint for the implementation process of green skills for the industry in coherence with different national VET systems.

Technical workers and apprentices in SMEs will be provided with the knowledge and the skills to manage and implement smart and sustainable growth.

Intermediate outcomes include the two Focus Groups to promote the cooperation among VET, work systems and Triple Helix stakeholders to co-create a Sustainable Training Module for Automotive Cluster suppliers and adopt a cluster-driven approach to VET. Tangible outcomes are the Local Stakeholders Action Plans to test the adapted Sustainable module, the final Scientific publication and the related abstracts in 4 national languages.

Additionally to the short term impact on Automotive suppliers cluster, workers and apprentices directly involved, the involvement and assessment of each project phase by external stakeholders will open up to further transfer opportunities to other clusters and VET sectors.

Project description (long):

The global sustainability challenge and the necessary transition toward a low carbon economy has a relevant impact on employment, as green restructuring generates demand for new skills to support industry re-orientation toward sustainable production. According to the Skills for Green Jobs 2010 CEDEFOP Study, the automotive sector and its cluster are the most prominent examples of the demand for additional competences and re-training of workers. The Eco Innovation Action Plan launched in 2011 underlines there is still a large gap between the potential for sustainable innovation and its state of art in SMEs. GREEN STAR aims to support the systemic change toward eco-innovation in the cluster of automotive suppliers, mainly SMES, by transferring the Leonardo DOI “GT-VET” Sustainable Training Module for the European Steel Industry (Large Enterprises) and the Blueprint for the implementation process of green skills for the industry in coherence with different national VET systems. Through the Blueprint, the Module will be adapted to the automotive suppliers cluster in Italy, Spain and Romania. Technical workers and apprentices in SMEs will be provided with knowledge and skills to manage and implement smart and sustainable growth by coping with regulatory frameworks and simultaneously exploiting new market opportunities offered by green innovation.

The transnational consortium therefore includes the source of innovation represented by the University of Dortmund, which will ensure the scientific transfer and stimulate discussion during the Focus Groups with the relevant stakeholders, by showcasing the GT-VET Blueprint and Module. Other partners, including the Lead, are Employers training and service organisations and Chamber of Commerce in Italy, Spain and Romania. Moreover, Clusters Leader SMEs in the three countries are involved. To ensure the full exploitation of results by VET systems in Italy (North and South) and at EU level, the Region of Veneto – Labour Directorate and the European Vocational Training Association will contribute to the activities and the valorization process.

Methodical approach:

On the background of the GT-VET Blueprint (model, training contents and implementation process) and a cluster driven analysis of green skills requirements in automotive suppliers SMEs the tranfer and adaptation possibilities will be discussed in two focus groups (including enterprises and policy makers):

FOCUS GROUP 1 - Reskilling & upskilling:

This focus group and the related work package 2 are aiming at

  • Identification of green skills for SMEs operational workers (e.g. in R&D, Product Development and Manufacturing, Logistics)
  • Identification of transversal green skills for apprenticeship in enterprises.
  •

FOCUS GROUP 2 - Integration of Green skills in identified qualification levels

his focus group and the related work package 3 are aiming at

  • Definition of methodology to develop Stakeholders Action Plans
  • Local Stakeholders Action Plans - Green skills in Continuous Training in IT, ES, RO
  • Local Stakeholders Action Plans- Green skills in Apprenticeship systems in IT, ES, RO

A FINAL CONFERENCE will be held at the end of the project with the main objectives:

  • impact evaluation
  • transfer opportunities to other VET sectors
