Jürgen Howaldt attends the conference „Enhancing Sustainable Growth: Skills And Smart Work Organization In The Digital Era“ in Finland

Jürgen Howaldt was invited to participate in the high level Conference for Competitiveness in Helsinki on July 3rd. The conference „Enhancing Sustainable Growth: Skills And Smart Work Organization In The Digital Era“ was the opening event for the Finish Presidency of the European Council. In his presentation he spoke about the increasing role of social innovation for organizations in the digital era.

Against the background of a number of European research projects he emphasised that requirements concerning labour organisation and labour policy are increasing. The question about conditions of preservation and further development of innovation capacity at the level of organisation of human work will become the central future issue of public innovation policy, where economic, technological and social innovations interact. Together with Prof. Dr. Steven Dhondt (TNO) he discussed the concept of workplace innovation as an important contribution to overcome the challenges of the digital transformation.

The priorities for Finland’s Presidency are

  • to strengthen common values and the rule of law
  • to make the EU more competitive and socially inclusive
  • to strengthen the EU’s position as a global leader in climate action
  • to protect the security of citizens comprehensively
