Students 4 Change: Innovation and social entrepreneurship in higher education

Dmitri Domanski and Sabrina Janz joined a meeting that took place within the course of the Erasmus+ project “Students 4 Change” in Porto Alegre, Brazil from the 9th until the 13th of July. The activity was hosted by Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). The idea behind the meeting was to enable a detailed discourse between project partners and lecturers, in order to create a curriculum that fosters innovation and social entrepreneurship at Latin American universities.

For that purpose, several workshops on creativity, lesson plans and tools for the implementation of social innovation were prepared and organized by the project partners. Dmitri Domanski and Sabrina Janz from TU Dortmund University – sfs presented current results of their work. Thereby the sfs has the task to develop recommendations for support mechanisms with regard to social innovation at participating Latin American higher education institutions.

The main objective of Students 4 Change is to draw up a pedagogical method for Latin American universities that allows them to teach and train upcoming innovators and entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to actively develop social innovations. This includes developing curricula, showing new possibilities of financing and sharing knowledge for long-term implementation of social innovation initiatives. The project is coordinated by the Mexican university Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). Altogether ten Latin American and five European universities as well as Ashoka Chile are involved in the project Students 4 Change.
