Social Innovation Community Summer School: Regions as Social Innovations Ecosystems

Together with the Middle Black Sea Development Agency (OKA) the European Horizon 2020 project Social Innovation Community (SIC) hosted a Summer School from the 9th to 11th of May 2018 in Samsun, Turkey. The participants explored the topic of “Regions as Social Innovation ecosystems”. The Summer School was an opportunity for conversation and peer learning through three days of practical, hands-on problem solving workshops around local challenges. Dmitri Domanski from TU Dortmund University –sfs held a lecture under the title “The Social Innovation (research) landscape – Moving the field towards an inclusive community”.

The Summer School also demonstrated the power of people collaborating, co-creating solutions to local challenges, and their motivation to making something for someone else. Following the Summer School, actors in the region have started discussions about how to connect and link their efforts by hosting more explorative learning events. The institutions have recognised each other and have seen the value of collaboration.

SIC Summer Schools are participatory learning events that happen all over Europe. Each Summer School includes inspirational keynote speakers, problem solving exercises and local site visits. Participants can include researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, social entrepreneurs and students. SIC Summer Schools provide a chance for you to meet your peers, learn about local and global case studies, share your challenges and work with other participants to develop solutions together.
