"ESIR" – New Journal on Social Innovation Launching

Looking for articles and reflections on social innovation? Or a journal to publish your own paper? The European Social Innovation Review (ESIR) is an interdisciplinary European Journal on social innovation knowledge and practices, launched 2016.



The ESIR is edited by Alfonso Unceta (University of the Basque Country, San Sebastian) and Javier Castro Spila (Sinnergiak Social Innovation, San Sebastian). They are assisted by an international editorial board of leading experts in the field of social innovation:


  • Sharam Alijani, NEOMA Business School, France
  • Steven Dhondt, University of Leuven, Belgium
  • Josef Hochgerner, ZSI – Centre for Social Innovation, Vienna
  • Christoph Kaletka, TU Dortmund University / sfs
  • Francesca Rizzo, Department of Architecture and Territorial Planning, Univ. of Bologna
  • Julia Wittmayer, DRIFT – Dutch Research Institute for Transitions, Rotterdam


ESIR is fully open access and its mission is to research and facilitate social innovation in the business sector, non-profit organisations, knowledge organisations, and public sector organisations by serious theoretical and methodological inquiry, exploring implications for innovation policies as well as of social innovation management.


ESIR aims to disseminate knowledge, practices and experience in social innovation and will publish research articles, case studies and provocative papers.

The first volume of ESIR (deadline for submission of papers is 31st of March 2016) focuses on measuring social innovation, on social impact and social value. All papers will be double-blind reviewed.
