Social Innovation Community Summer School: Social Innovation in the Public Sector

From the 27th until the 29th of June 2018, around 50 people met at the SIC Summer School in San Sebastián (Spain) to share with participants, learn and explore principles, models and strategies of public innovation. This edition of the Summer School “SUMSIC 2018: Social Innovation in the Public Sector” created a shared learning space between the social and political spheres. The Summer School was the 4th of 5 organised and held by the European Horizon 2020 project team – the Social Innovation Community.

Participants took part in three workshops that looked to address real life social innovation challenges. They were presented with challenges from local partners working on the ground to implement social innovation initiatives. Through ideation processes, as well as new working practices and social innovation tools, participants worked on the challenges over the three day course of the Summer School, and presented their solutions on the last day. Dmitri Domanski from TU Dortmund University – sfs participated as a facilitator in one of the workshops.

SIC Summer Schools are participatory learning events that happen all over Europe. Each Summer School includes inspirational keynote speakers, problem solving exercises and local site visits. Participants can include researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, social entrepreneurs and students. SIC Summer Schools provide a chance for you to meet your peers, learn about local and global case studies, share your challenges and work with other participants to develop solutions together.
